Apogee Users: Depeche Mode
If Mode is defined as a way, style or manner of living or doing, then Depeche Mode has defined a sonic mode for the past three decades. Depeche Mode has, for the past 25 years, successfully cultivated and maintained a musical style that has come to identify the era of British electro dance pop of the 1980s. Depeche Mode did more than turn out classic hits- their music catapulted a new subculture lifestyle of “synth-pop” that came to define its decade and the music generations that followed in its footsteps. With their most recent album, Playing the Angel, Depeche Mode effectively incorporated their classic sound while experimenting with new beats and edgy tracks. Using three of Apogee’s AD 8000 converters, the record’s sonic quality is as good as its songs. 72 Million albums sold later, Depeche Mode is still making relevant music, but not so new that they lost their infamous synth-pop sound. The Apogee AD 8000s gave Depeche Mode the chance to experiment with the comfort of knowing that the production quality would be top notch. Turns out, their album is stellar. Andy Kellman of Allmusic.com says, “It is not the kind of album a 25-year-old band is supposed to make.” But a great album was bound to happen when you pair classic Apogee 8000s with the most classic 80s electro-pop band of all time.
