Apogee Users: David Gray

U.K. Singer David Gray Uses Apogee Trak2 and AD 8000 For His First Album Recorded in Full Scale Professional Studio

David Gray with Apogee AD-8000s

While the word grey might imply dull, David Gray is far from colorless with his lyrical poignancy, rich voice and earthy tones. Most noted for his 2000 hit “Babylon,” David is still in the studio. His latest album, Life in Slow Motion, was the first time he recorded in a full-featured, professional facility instead of his previous “bedroom” recording setup. Apogee’s Trak2 and AD 8000 provided the sonic quality that David needed to make the upgrade.

Born in 1968 in Manchester, England, David’s path of producing folk/pop hits coupled with more mellow tracks parallel the shape of his long spanning career. Released in late 2005, Life in Slow Motion was engineered and mixed between David’s studio and Whitfield Street in London using three of Apogee’s Trak2s and two AD 8000 converters. Engineer Iestyn Polson and Producer and Instrumentalist Marius De Vries (Rufus Wainwright, David Bowie, Madonna, U2) were both involved in the making of the album. The album reached #16 on the Top Internet Albums and #16 on The Billboard 200 Charts in 2005 and 2006.

Making the move into a full-featured, professional recording studio meant having a plethora of quality equipment at his fingertips…and where there’s Apogee gear there’s Apogee quality. The Trak2 and AD-8000 enabled David to have the audio distinction that he needed for his much-anticipated seventh album and truly illuminated the delicate vocals and meditative flow of his style making it a feast for attentive ears.
