SBus...Double the Power of your Symphony System

Symphony's SBus expands the processing power of your studio with multiple Macs

What is Apogee's SBus?

SBus allows you to send digital audio directly between Symphony equipped Mac computers (Works with X-Series and Rosetta Series Converters only). Connect two Macs with a single cable and double the processing power of your studio.

How can I use SBus to expand my studio?

Session to Session Audio Transfer

Effortlessly send audio from one Mac to another between Core Audio based applications like Logic Pro, Final Cut Pro, Digital Performer, Nuendo and Ableton Live.

SBus Audio

Sample Library & Soft-synth Player

Store processor intensive sample libraries and soft-synths on a second Mac Pro. This works just like having any sampler or synthesizer connected to your Mac pro. Your main DAW on your primary Mac will send a MIDI message out to the second Mac, triggering your software synth or sampler. The audio will then be sent back via SBus into your main DAW.

Virtual Effects Rack

Route audio to your second Mac Pro, process it with your favorite plug-ins and send it back to your main DAW.

You can also use your second machine as an Effects rack. Let's say you are running Nuendo as your main recording application, but you love the sound of Logic’s Sound Designer plug in, With SBus this is no longer a problem. In fact you can use all of Logic’s plug-ins, synths and samples all through a single cable.

Setting up SBus in your studio.

The following hardware instructions are the 5 basic steps for setting up SBus for audio transfer or sample triggering. For more detailed instructions please refer to the Symphony 64 User’s Guide.

  • Step 1: Install the first Symphony card and drivers on the primary Mac Pro computer.
  • Step 2: Connect your converters to the first port labeled 1-32 and confirm everything is working properly.
  • Step 3: Install the second Symphony card and drivers on the second Mac Pro computer.
  • Step 4: Connect a Symphony PCI-32 cable from the second port (labeled 33-64) of the primary computer to the first port (labeled 1-32) on the secondary computer.
  • Step 5: Install the MIDI over LAN software and connect a single ethernet cable between the two computers. Blue cables indicate Symphony connections between Apogee hardware and the Mac Pro Red cable indicates ethernet connection for MIDI over LAN between Mac Pros
