Using ONE to record an entire song in GarageBand“Forever” is a complete song demonstrating ONE’s amazing potential. Each instrument was recorded using ONE’s internal condenser microphone with the exception of bass and electric guitar, which were recorded direct using ONE’s instrument input. Using careful placement, vocals, acoustic guitar and drums were all recorded in mono. Once tracking was complete “Forever” was edited and mixed in GarageBand. Download the GarageBand session file to see exactly what we did.

Mic Placement
|
When recording acoustic guitar in mono using ONE’s internal microphone, ONE was placed one foot away from the fret board around the twelfth fret. We started with ONE directly in front of the twelfth fret but then moved it down the fret board a bit to get away from the sound hole.

Mic Placement |
When recording Trumpet using ONE’s internal microphone, ONE was placed at bell height while the player stood off access at a 45 degree angle about 2 feet from ONE. The reason for standing off axis is that pointing the bell directly at the internal microphone caused the signal be a bit bright. Once the player moved off axis we arrived at the tone we were looking for.

When recording drums in mono using ONE’s internal microphone, ONE was placed between the rack tom and floor tom facing the snare drum. This allowed ONE to be in the center of the entire kit capturing all drums equally.
