Apogee´s CD-R is a premium quality product. Optimized for multi-speed writing and far exceeding Orange Book specifications in terms of block error rates, the Apogee disc offers several features which make it ideal for audio applications.

We spent a great deal of effort locating the best product available - and improving on it. Apogee´s CD-R features the gold ´Phthalocyanine´ dye, rather than the ordinary green cyanine variety. This is much more resistant to ambient light, heat and humidity, and gives the disc an estimated life of over a century. Then in addition to the standard coating of lacquer to protect the pure gold or silver reflective layer, we´ve added our own DataSaver II resin layer on top, which offers even more protection from handling and the elements.

The quality and longevity of the disc is optimized in other ways too. Our research indicated that there was a direct link between the amount of ink on the disc´s printed label and the block error rate on the disc. If you have a heavily-printed, multi-color label, the ink can leach into the surface of the disc and cause deterioration over time - and each additional color compounds the problem. Our disc simply carries a small logo and three writing guidelines, all in just one color.
