| Q: | How do I connect my DA-16 to a Pro Tools HD System? |
| A: | The DA-16 is equipped with an AES DB-25 connector which accepts 16 channels of AES input at sample rates up to 96 kHz. You will need to purchase the DA-16 AES cable to connect to the DA-16 and output the AES from the HD converters into the AES Cable. |
| Q: | How do I connect the AD-16 and DA-16 to my Digidesign 192 Digital? |
| A: | The AES-16-DIGI-IFC is needed to connect the AD-16 and DA-16 to the Digidesign 192 Digital. The AES-16-DIGI-IFC is a special cable designed specifically for this purpose. Each connector is labeled to indicate the unit to which it should be connected. There are a total of four DB-25 connectors on this cable. One goes to the AD-16 AES output, one goes to the DA-16 AES input, and two connectors for the 192 Digital. You will need two of the digital option cards for the DA-16 to use 16 channels of AES. |
| Q: | How do I connect the DA-16 to the Nuendo 9652 card? |
| A: | The DA-16 is equipped with four optical ADAT inputs that can operate at sample rates up to 96 kHz. When using 44.1 or 48 kHz, only the first and third optical inputs are needed. The first input goes to the second ADAT port on the 9652 card which is located right next to the 9-pin connector. This is for channels 1-8. The third optical input will go into the fourth optical port from the left of the 9-pin connector on the Nuendo 9652 card. This is for channels 9-16. When using 88.2 or 96 kHz, dip switch #5 must be set to the up position. This puts the DA-16 into the S/MUX mode for 88.2 or 96 kHz sample rates. When using 88.2 or 96 kHz, the number of ADAT optical channels is cut in half. So the first ADAT input will receive channels 1-4, the second input will receive channels 5-8, the third input will receive 9-12, and the fourth input will receive channels 13-16. The Nuendo 9652 card acts in the same way. So the second optical port is outputs 1-4, the third port from the 9-pin connector is outputs 5-8. The supplied daughter card for the Nuendo 9652 card is where you will attach the optical cable for channels 9-12. The Nuendo 9652 card, when using 88.2 or 96 kHz, can only output 12 channels. To have more channels at that sampling rate you must have two of these cards present in your system. |
| Q: | I have the DA-16 connected to the Nuendo 9652 card. I see signal in Nuendo but I am not hearing anything out of the DA-16. |
| A: | In the control panel for the Nuendo 9652 card there is an option to set the optical output to the S/PDIF format. If this is checked the DA-16 will not see this as a valid format, as the only optical protocol it will see is the ADAT eight channel format. Make sure that the optical output of the Nuendo 9652 card is not set to output S/PDIF. |
