Apogee’s Revolutionary Master Digital Clock “Big Ben” Now Available

Santa Monica, CA, June 11, 2003 — Apogee Electronics Corporation announced today that its innovative master digital clock, Big Ben is now available worldwide through authorized dealers and distributors. Big Ben promises to revolutionize digital clocking in audio and video production studios with new technology that offers unprecedented clock source stability and jitter reduction.

Big Ben’s central and most ground-breaking feature is Apogee’s C777 clock and its “Adaptive Loop Filtering” (ALF) technology. With the all digital, C777 clock, and "ALF", Big Ben is able to intelligently adjust incoming clock signals, synchronize them, and generate one stable clock source. This process nearly eliminates jitter, optimizes communication between digital devices, and allows for the highest quality A/D and D/A conversion and audio to video synching available. “The release of Big Ben marks the culmination of our considerable research and development and will offer a superior clock box while reaffirming Apogee’s position as a premier designer of digital clocking technology.” says Betty Bennett, Co-Founder and CEO of Apogee.

The list of capabilities does not end there either. Big Ben also provides a fail-safe lock to external sources, an optional FireWire card for format conversion, termination sensing, and a wide range of standard I/O choices including 6 word clock outs, AES, S/PDIF, and Optical. With all of this innovation and usability, Apogee’s Big Ben is poised to create a new standard for studio clocking in the pro audio/video industry.

Big-Ben at a glance:

  • AES, S/PDIF, Optical I/O - Word Clock/Video In - 6 Word Clock Outs
  • Real-time format conversion between all digital formats
  • Direct Digital Synthesis (DDS) using Apogee's C777 Clock Technology up to 192kHz
  • Adaptive Loop Filtering (ALF) for optimize clock performance and minimize jitter
  • Optional FireWire connection to facilitate clocking and format conversion with other FireWire devices
  • Fail safe lock to external sources (Sure Lock) and word clock termination sensing
  • Sophisticated looking 1U rack (19”w x 1 13/16”h x 11 5/8”d ) with brushed aluminum face and led display for options interface
