Countdown to Zero

Apogee's support of 'Countdown to Zero'

At Apogee we believe it is critical to be aware of the issues affecting us all. We have a corporate responsibility program that contributes to many charities, we work diligently to manufacture our products responsibly and we sponsor trips for our employees to developing areas so they may expand their world view and be exposed to new cultures.

To that end, we are supporting 'COUNTDOWN TO ZERO'. Brought to our attention by Alexandria Jackson, who leads us in many of our charitable endeavors, this is a timely and compelling film on the threat of nuclear holocaust that looms over us all. After organizing several screenings to raise financial and popular backing to aid in the release of the documentary, Alexandria and Apogee continue to support this movie and its message. Please take the time to learn more about this very important issue.

About the movement and the film

Since the end of the cold war there is the perception that the nuclear threat has abated, but the truth is that the dangers of nuclear proliferation have never been so imminent and urgent.

With approximately 23,000 nuclear weapons on this planet and highly enriched uranium more accessible than ever, it is only a matter of time until the devastation of nuclear attack arrives. The choice is simple and stark: a world without nuclear weapons or a world destroyed by them.

As grave as this sounds, we are at a historic moment.  Bi-partisan consensus is growing among the core of America's security leaders. From George Schultz to Sam Nunn to Bill Perry to Henry Kissinger to Jim Baker, the very people we have trusted to keep us safe are all calling for a step-by-step program to lead us towards a world with zero nuclear weapons. But for anything to happen, the American people need to join their call.

Produced by Academy Award winner Lawrence Bender ('An Inconvenient Truth', 'Inglourious Basterds') with Participant Media and written and directed by Lucy Walker ('The Devil’s Playground', 'Blind Sight'), 'Countdown to Zero' can be a vital and effective tool in educating & engaging the public. Featuring international experts and statesmen, the movie makes a clear and powerful case that the only safe option is eliminating the most purely destructive force on the planet.

A special screening of 'Countdown to Zero' was held at Apogee in June. We encourage everyone to see this film and get involved with the Global Zero campaign in the effort to eliminate nuclear weapons globally.
